Do you set yourself up for success every day? How many of us learn that we should head out the door and just face the day first before thinking about ourselves. Even typing that makes me feel like some sort of a millennial narcissist. However, in my ten years of caregiving professionally I have learned that when we forget ourselves the rest of the world does too. It's easy to do, we start out with a to do list from yesterday and we are running. We figure if we serve everyone else first than we will eventually fall into place as well.
I learned the hard way that putting others needs entirely before ourselves does not mean that your world will eventually fall into place. You need to take care of yourself every day in order to take care of the rest of your world. I dare you to take care of yourself every day and to take a selfie as an accountability partner in your self care journey. You can't give to others if you don't have a self to give. This is all armchair wisdom, but it is vital to being effective as a mother and caregiver. Show up in your own life every day and shine no matter what the circumstances are. Take care of yourself physically not because you want to win the approval of a million instagram clickers, but because your body is special and you are proud of the temple that you walk around in each day and serve others with. It's important for all of the people in your life to see that they matter and the only reason that they do is because you matter too.
